section through building The initial discussion with the client regarding this contemplated addition centered around what we could do with an otherwise flat, ranch house layout to create an emphasis on verticality. It would make the difference between simply adding an additional second layer to the house and creating a true 2 story experience.

In order to achieve this, the space in the entry went literally straight to the roof. Upon entering the house, the full height of the building is instantly experienced. The master bedroom echoes the emphasis on the z-axis through a 20' cathedral ceiling. (see illustrated section on related links.)
