A typical New England family home needed to be doubled in size by adding a second story.

A perceived sense of verticality and drama was desireable in what might otherwise be a flat and unremarkable 2nd story layer. The exterior would belie a system of varied interior ceiling heights, creating drama beginning in the building entry foyer and extending into the master bedroom and entertainment wing.

A 3rd story loft space contributes to the desired emphasis on verticality.
