About The Art and Artists
at Crosstown

The guiding metaphor of the name Crosstown, which inspired as well the first recording ever done "Where These Streets Meet" is the notion of a place where different walks of life could experience a point of view other than their own. That in fact, streets meet, if you search for a common ground- a lesson I learned a long time ago.

In a sense, that is the point of Crosstown, to put art back at the center of human experience, and to present art to those who might otherwise never be exposed.

Ultimately, if it can provide a venue for artists to thrive, it will have accomplished a very important mission.

The focus of what Crosstown currently presents in the gallery is markedly urban and contemporary.

That said, there are no rules about rejecting representational work, for example, out of hand. We are dedicated to showing and promoting dedicated artists who have continued to make art, despite the absence of recognition.

We will attempt to survey a wide landscape of human urban expression, of the past, the present and the future, but do not pretend to present a complete history of art.

If Crosstown can rekindle an awareness of the activity in the arts that has gone on in this century, generate a new excitement about it, and inspire and support its continuance into the next century, it will have succeeded.
